Schools Dragons' Den Event
[return]
SEVEN teams of school pupils in Renfrewshire faced a panel of 'dragons' in a bid to win financial backing for each of their school's social enterprise projects.
The RWCU was represented by Communications and Development Manager Alison Dowling who commented:
"I was impressed by the high-impact, innovative approaches the competition finalists took to delivering the aims of the Dragons Den project, addressing a variety of social, environmental and economic challenges of our time and bringing tangible benefits to specific sectors of the Renfrewshire community. The pupil contenders proved that they have utilised local skills and life experience to formulate the strategic aims of their social enterprises, and demonstrated an understanding of business skills and principles that indicated their projects would be run in a professional and sustainable way. The contenders clearly confirmed that they had learned, grown and been inspired by participation in Dragons Den and provided inspiring examples for the field of social enterprise. The overall project winner, Ecoforms, demonstrated visionary leadership and introduced a method of progressing its social and economic objectives through entrepreneurial strategies that are meaningful and genuinly unique. In conclusion, Dragons Den provides a model for building sustainable, school-led social enterprise approaches to a range of issues and critical problems, and it was a priviledge to participate on behalf of the credit union movement."
